Alex Pietrangelo ready for Las Vegas – Nate Schmidt to Vancouver

The moving carousel continues in the NHL.

And the big stars can choose from the offers despite clubs complaining of the effects of the corona virus and reduced revenue after playing in front of empty stands during the end of the 2019-20 season.

When St. Louis signed a giant long contract the other day with Boston defender Tobey Krug, team captain Alex Pietrangelo understood that his days were numbered with the Blues.

So last Saturday he accepted an invitation from the Golden Knights and went to Las Vegas.

After two days in Sin City, Pietrangelo and the Golden Knights agreed.

The 30-year-old defender, who led St. Louis to the championship title in 2019, put the signature on a 7-year contract worth 542.1 million SEK.

William Karlsson: “A difficult player to face”

His average annual salary in the coming years will be 77.4 million SEK.

– It’s heavy losing Schmidt, of course. But on the other hand, it will be fun to see Pietrangelo in our colors. He’s a tough player to face so I’m happy he’s with us now, says William Karlsson.

To make room for Pietrangelo in the salary budget, Vegas was forced to fire Nate Schmidt, who had a strong season last season.

The Vancouver Canucks were quick to take over his contract, which has five years left and gives Schmidt an annual salary of 52.4 million SEK.

In return, Vegas received a draft pick in the third round next year.

Vegas has previously traded veteran forward Paul Stastny, 34, to the Winnipeg Jets for 25-year-old Swede Carl Dahlström and a fourth round in 2022.

The Canucks have lost two regular defenders last week since Troy Stecher (Detroit) and Chris Tanev (Calgary) decided to accept offers from competing clubs.
