US consumer and pharmaceutical conglomerate Johnson & Johnson has suspended its trial of a possible COVID-19 vaccine, the company said in a statement.
Johnson & Johnson launched a global phase 3 study of the vaccine in September, but the study is now temporarily suspended after a participant became inexplicably ill. It has not been established that the disease was caused by the test.
The participant’s health must now be examined by both the company and an independent group.
“We must respect the privacy of this participant. We are learning more about his illness and it is important to have all the facts before providing more information,” Johnson & Johnson wrote in the statement, where the company writes that illness and nausea is normal. in large tests.
According to the company, test breaks are not strange, and something that is not normally communicated but something that is done now regarding the attention that is given to the development of the coronavine vaccine.
Johnson & Johnson began enrolling volunteers for trials on September 23. The plan has been to reach 60,000 participants. Registration for the study has now at least temporarily stopped.
In September, Astra Zeneca and the University of Oxford temporarily suspended clinical trials of their COVID-19 vaccine following a potentially unexplained illness in a UK subject.
The disease was not related to the vaccine, and testing resumed after less than a week.
