Caught for speeding – blamed Matt Damon

The 45-year-old had rented a rental car when he was caught on a speed camera on Highway 23 outside Växjö in November 2018.

When the photo was taken, he was driving 86 kilometers per hour on Highway 80.

He himself denies the crime. During the trial, he came up with the explanation that someone had posted his image on camera and sent it to the district court. He says he had not borrowed the car or driven on the road in question.

Similarity in image

Instead, he believes that it may be a world-famous actor who was sitting in the car at the time, according to the Växjö District Court.

“The person in the camera image may be Matt Damon,” he stated according to the district court.

However, during the investigation it was found that the defendant had rented the car on the date the speeding occurred. The district court also finds that there is an “obvious similarity” between the speed camera image and the appearance of the defendant.

The driver is now convicted of the speeding offense with a fine of SEK 1,500 as a penalty, about which Smålandsposten wrote first.
