Before the psychiatric ambulance in Halland | Hallandsposten

The need for better care for those with acute mental illness is great.

Patients who need emergency psychiatric care should receive the same care and attention as patients who need emergency somatic care. Just as those with a heart attack receive care in the acute stage, those with an acute mental illness should receive equally good help in the acute stage.

The fact that patients with, for example, suicide risk or psychosis receive correct treatment by personnel with specialized competence means safer evaluations and the opportunity to receive the appropriate level of care from the beginning.

However, it is not uncommon for the police to be the first person to suffer from an acute mental illness, which can be perceived as deeply offensive, as it can send signals that it is almost a crime to have a mental illness.

Kungsbacka police recently stated that more and more resources are being used to transport people with mental illness. In certain situations, of course, it is necessary with the help of the police, but the scarce resources of the police should be invested in areas for which others are better suited, we Swedish democrats believe this is wrong.

As a step to further improve psychiatric care and free up resources for the police, we Democrats in Sweden have proposed introducing a psychiatric ambulance in the Halland Region.

The psychiatric ambulance staff have access to the medical record system in the car and therefore often know which patient they are meeting when they arrive. Thus, a large proportion can receive individualized care directly and do not need to be admitted to the hospital.

In recent years, several regions have introduced PAM, a successful initiative that has been shown to reduce the burden for both the police and the psychiatric emergency department.

We therefore hope that other members of the regional council will approve the proposal and that a psychiatric ambulance will also be introduced in Halland.
