8 out of 10 large Swedish companies intend to allow employees to continue working remotely, even after the pandemic.
This is demonstrated by a new follow-up survey to the Telia Digital Index report.
– Telecommuting has become the new norm, says Mille Beckman, head of digitization and change management at Telia.

What’s the point of the office? The crown crisis has made us aware of the pros and cons of teleworking and the question of the role of the office is more relevant than ever.
Swedes who can work from home must do so for the rest of the year, according to the Swedish Public Health Agency. Many companies are also planning more telecommuting after the crisis.
– The vision of telework will have a “before and after the pandemic.” Working independently of locations has quickly become much more accepted. More industries have found that it works and has benefits, simply because they have been forced to, says Mille Beckman.
“Remote work: a matter of course”
The report “The Telia Digital Index” shows each year how prepared Swedish companies are to seize the opportunities of digitization. During the spring, the report was supplemented with a follow-up survey. Up to 79 percent of decision makers in companies with more than 50 employees responded that employees will continue to work remotely after the pandemic, either primarily or occasionally.
– I think that in the future employers will be required to offer teleworking in some way. We live in a knowledge society where, regardless of the industry, you need to learn new things, which is good to do remotely, says Mille Beckman.
Offering “trusted work hours,” which you can work flexibly, is becoming increasingly important in attracting competent employees, says Beckman:
– It is in part about having the technology so that employees can work easily and flexibly. But it’s mostly about having culture: a modern way of looking at work where effort and commitment count. It is also important to develop smart methods of cooperation and socialization so that everyone does not feel like they are on a “digital island”.
Two futures offices: coworking and satellite
Many companies are now reviewing their office solutions.
– Offices will probably be reduced, but they still have an important role as a meeting place where we collaborate and we have project areas, but also focus areas for those who cannot or do not want to work remotely.
Mille Beckman believes that two office models will grow:
– Coworking office where we share a surface with other companies. We share the costs while obtaining a larger network of contacts and a flexible solution.
The second model is a satellite office:
– A small office of the company where not everyone fits at the same time, but where everyone still has their affiliation, where you can have meetings, trainings, etc.
Better wellness in highly digital companies
The “Telia Digital Index” report shows a clear connection between high digitization companies and the most satisfied staff. Those with high digital level consider themselves more attractive as employers and manage to retain their employees to a greater extent.
