The strengthening of the basic organization of the Armed Forces is the result of an agreement between the government, the Center Party and the Liberals.
The reestablishment of the I21 regiment in Sollefteå is justified “mainly for military geographical reasons and for contingency reasons”, as stated in the press release.
Under the agreement, the regiment will be reestablished no later than 2022 and will reach its maximum capacity during the period 2026-2030.
Happy today
The training capacity will be 200-250 recruits per year. “Recruits must be recruited largely at the regional level to, among other things, ensure a high level of readiness in military units,” writes the Defense Ministry, among other things.
Sollefteå City Councilor Johan Andersson (C) is happy today.
– Today we have taken a big step towards the restoration of Sollefteå. It is very gratifying for Sollefteå and for the whole of Västernorrland and shows what a great offer we have, he tells TT.
“The county is a winner”
Härnösand’s colleague, Andreas Sjölander (S), is also happy but somewhat more reserved in his comment.
– Of course, I would have preferred to see Härnösand as my capital. But if this also becomes the final decision, we as a county remain winners. We managed to row together in the harbor. If we had fought only for Härnösand, there probably would have been no regiment in Västernorrland, it says on the Härnösand municipality website.
