Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas started well and managed to overtake his British teammate.
But then everything went wrong for the Finn. He lost the lead after a serious failure and only a few laps later had to break down due to technical problems with the car.
Instead, it was a show for Hamilton, who has become world champion three years in a row.
Verstappen second
Runner-up in the race was Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who took many points from Bottas in the battle for second place, but Hamilton has almost secured his seventh World Cup title. The big star now leads with 69 points.
– Overall, it was a good race today. Tried to follow Hamilton after Valtteri interrupted. I gave it my all and managed to get an extra point after the fastest lap. “We were worthy of a second place today,” says Verstappen, who ended up doing the fastest lap in the competition.
The victory is Hamilton’s seventh this season and 91st of his career. Thus, he touches the record of the mythical Michael Schumacher.
Räikkönen recording
Finnish veteran Kimi Räikkönen, 40, set a record as the driver who has started the most Formula 1 races of all time. But in his 323rd start, he was a twelfth place and no points.
