2,000 people had gathered on the White House lawn Saturday night to hear Donald Trump speak during his first appearance since he returned from Walter Reed Military Medical Center, where he was treated for COVID-19.

The White House called the event a “peaceful protest for law and order.”

Thanked the police

From the balcony of the presidential palace, the president was greeted with cheers as he jumped widely between various topics such as the crown pandemic and the demonstrations of black lives.

– I want to thank our police force, it is thanks to them that we are safe. I must also say, our Black and Latin American people, thank you.

In the speech, the president alternated between praising his own administration and criticizing his opponents. He handed out personal boots to Joe Biden and his vice presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, and criticized them for taking a stand for “looting left-wing extremists.”

“Most important choice in history”

Trump ended with an invitation to the audience to vote:

– Thank you for coming to this fantastic lawn. I just want to thank you and go vote. This is the most important presidential election in history. Go out to vote, I love you.

The doctor: “Extraordinarily inappropriate”

However, the president has been criticized for making public appearances when it may still be contagious. Emergency Physician Jeremy Faust visited CNN’s “Newsroom” program and was particularly critical of the president’s decision to invite the public:

– Literally dragging people into the White House is extraordinarily inappropriate in terms of public health.
