Tens of thousands of soldiers marched on Kim II Sung Square in Pyongyang. Troops with new tanks, weapons and equipment paraded in front of a jubilant crowd in an extremely well-choreographed parade believed to have taken place early Saturday morning. Particularly distinctive was a new ICBM.

From a podium in Kim Il Sung Square Dictator Kim Jong-Un delivered a lengthy speech in which he emphasized that North Korea’s military strength is sufficient to defend itself from any outside force. At the same time, he stressed that North Korea does not plan to attack any country, but is ready to “fully” mobilize its nuclear weapons if the country is attacked.

“We will continue to develop our military capabilities,” Kim Jong-Un told a cheering crowd.

At the same time, despite military efforts, Kim Jong-Un regretted that the country could not reward the people enough. Several times during the speech, the North Korean leader was moved and his eyes filled with tears when he spoke about the economic difficulties facing the country. He mentioned the floods and storms that hit the country, how Covid-19 closed the borders and the UN sanctions that weigh on the economy.

At the same time kept Kim Jong-Un how grateful he is that the country, according to him, has not had a single case of covid-19. He also expressed hopes for good health in the rest of the world and extended a hand to South Korea, the southern neighbor with whom he maintains an icy relationship.

“I hope that South Korea and North Korea can hold hands at some point in the future,” Kim Jong-Un said, according to NK News, which specializes in news about North Korea.

The United States was not mentioned at all in the speech. Probably a precaution about who will be president after the elections in less than four weeks.
