The leading index of the New York Stock Exchange rose on Friday. New hope was generated among investors for a new state aid package following a statement by Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Speaker of the House.
Pelosi said negotiations on a new package with Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin would resume. Wall Street trading has been heavily influenced recently by the discussion about support packages. On Tuesday, stock prices fell sharply after President Donald Trump suspended state aid negotiations with Democrats, but later hinted that negotiations could resume.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.6 percent, the S&P 500 rose 0.9 percent and the Nasdaq High-Tech Composite Index rose 1.4 percent. Over the past week, the Dow Jones rose 3.3 percent, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were up 3.8 and 4.6 percent, respectively.
