After his incomparable start to the season with two world records, Armand Duplantis was forced to train at home in his parents’ garden when the corona pandemic struck.
With very little else to do in his spare time, he started playing golf, something he said he had a plan to do even during his summer in Sweden.
One of the several rounds of golf he attended was Victoria Golf in Öland, where Duplantis teamed up with Prince Daniel.
Armand Duplantis in Skavlan
On SVT’s Skavlan that airs Friday night, Duplantis says the prince was very good.
– He was better than me, really. Almost too good, I thought: “he has to play a lot then,” says Duplantis.
But that it was just a prince she was playing with, it wasn’t something Duplantis thought about during the day.
– It was great playing with him. We were a couple of “brothers” who also enjoyed playing golf. If I hadn’t known he was a prince when I got into this, I would never have guessed he was. Because we had our feet on the ground. We just relax, says Duplantis.

When Skavlan asks Duplantis if he addressed Prince Daniel in the third person, the 20-year-old freezes.
– Should you do it?
– Yes. He’s a prince, Skavlan replies.
Duplantis laughs.
– So I tried to be respectful, of course. But I think he experienced that it was nice to be “normal” if you say so, and enjoy playing. We talk a lot about sports.
Duplantis recently broke Sergei Bubka’s outdoor record in pole vault when he jumped 6.15 in Rome. He already holds the world record of 6.18.
