September broke the world heat record as the hottest September in history.
The fact that it was unusually hot also applied to various places in Skåne.
In Malmö, the average temperature was up to 15 degrees, two degrees warmer than normal.
– Globally, we have a very rapid long-term warming. It started in the 19th century and has been marked by an additional batch in the last fifty years. Locally, there is a lot of variation in temperatures from day to day, but it will be warmer in the long run. We hope that over time more and more warm records will be broken, Erik Kjellström, professor of climatology at SMHI, tells Sydsvenskan.
Warmest in 134 years
In Lund, a heat record was broken when the impressive temperature of 27.7 degrees could be measured in September. It is the hottest September day in Lund in 134 years.
A record was also set in Helsingborg when the temperature gauge showed 24.7 degrees on September 27.
– We will see more records of this type in the future, although, of course, it will not be every year. If, on the other hand, we had had a very cold September globally, it would have been important news, something that deviated from the pattern. But there is nothing to indicate that the pattern would be broken, Erik Kjellström tells Sydsvenskan.
