On Wednesday, it happened, when Lias Andersson was traded to the Los Angeles Kings from the New York Rangers.
– I come to a club that really believes in me, he tells Sportbladet.
Lias Andersson finished seventh in the 2017 draft. But after saving playing time last NHL season, he was loaned out to HV71.
When the Swede returns to the United States, he changes from east to west. On Wednesday night, the Rangers announced that they had traded the 21-year-old to the LA Kings.
– I was very surprised. I had a feeling something might be going on, but it still surprised me, says Lias Andersson.
“I was just as surprised”
When the phone rang at night, at the same time as the turn, the forward thought it was the bank that was calling.
– I was at home and had talked to my American bank, which is in Los Angeles, all day. So when I saw the number, I thought they were calling me.
Although Lia’s father, Niklas Andersson, works as a scout for the LA Kings, the change of club was unexpected.
– He had a little idea, but he was as surprised as I was. They called him shortly before and told him their plan.
In return, the Rangers Kings got their 60th pick in the draft.

Lias Andersson.
What are your feelings about the Rangers?
– It’s hard to say, but I’m not concentrating on that. Now I come to a club that really believes in me.
What do you know about Kings?
– My good friend Jacob Moverare (in the NHL club) has spoken to me quite a bit over the years. It seems to be a club that cares about its players and cares about having a good time. They also strive to be a winning club.
Have you had time to talk to him?
– Yes. He just called and laughed on the phone. But it will be a lot of fun to play with.
It is not yet clear when the club wants Lias Andersson to join the team. But once that happens, the Swede will be ready.
– I really want to be able to put on the shirt and do the best I can. Now my goal is to take a place on the team and play a full year in the NHL.
