Police were alerted to the suspicious object just before 5 a.m. Thursday.
It was after a man walked in with injuries to his hands, according to police.
He is a man in his 50s who has stated that he took the object to his apartment after finding it outside his home in Gårdsten.
In the apartment, parts of the object have since exploded. He took the object to the hospital, after which the police were called to the scene.
In addition to a large area around the hospital, the man’s apartment is also cordoned off.
Pump protection in place
Just before 07, the national bomb squad is in place to investigate.
– When the bomb protection is ready in the hospital, they will go to the apartment, says Thomas Fuxborg, spokesman for the police in the West region.
The blockade affects both traffic and possible ambulances. Due to the barricade, there are stops on tram lines 2 and 4. The 761 bus has a different route and does not travel between the center of Mölndal and Lana in either direction, says Västtrafik.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into dangerous general destruction and violations of the law on flammable and explosive products.
