President Donald Trump is fine and has antibodies, according to his doctor Sean Conley.
– It does not give us much information and it is not very logical, says immunologist Deepta Bhattacharya of the University of Arizona.
Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, said in a statement Wednesday night Swedish time that the president has been symptom-free for 24 hours and fever-free for four days. His state of health is considered “within normal range”.
A blood test on Monday also showed he has measurable levels of IgG antibodies to the coronavirus, Conley said in the statement.
According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, it can take a while for the body to form antibodies and a sample should not be taken until at least ten days after the onset of the disease.
The fact that Trump has antibodies can possibly be explained by the fact that he was treated with an experimental antibody drug at the hospital over the weekend.
Anders Sönnerborg, a professor of clinical microbiology at the Karolinska Institutet, tells Aftonbladet that the test may well have reacted to the drug’s antibodies.
“It is said that he had a mild illness that normally causes antibodies to develop later at low levels. Although it has not yet been scientifically proven to be safe, it is likely that the antiviral treatment he has received will further delay the development of antibodies. So, with all reservations, it is most likely that it is the artificial antibodies that are discovered or that he will become ill before Thursday, ”Anders Sönnerborg writes in an email to Aftonbladet.
The test doesn’t know the difference
Immunologist Deepta Bhattacharya from the University of Arizona in the United States tells the New York Times that it doesn’t say much that Trump has antibodies because they can be derived from treatment.
Hala Mirza, a spokesperson for Regeneron, which makes the drug, says that a standard test would likely not make any difference between the antibodies produced by the body itself and those added in a dose of your drug.
The question of when Trump was infected also does not elicit a clear answer that he is said to have antibodies, according to Marion Pepper, a virologist at the University of Washington.
She tells the New York Times that antibodies are generally found in corona infections after 8 to 14 days. According to Pepper, the shortest known time from infection to antibodies is five days.
The date the president was infected is partly interesting, as it is speculated that he may have already been infected during the chaotic debate against Joe Biden.
But what many corona experts point out is that President Donald Trump may be in a phase where he feels better after an initial illness and then falls ill again.
Something that has been shown to affect some of those who have become ill from covid.
President Trump is reported to have said Wednesday morning that “I’m fine.”
And he returned later that day to the Oval Office of the White House for the first time since being flown to the hospital.
