The moderates in the migration message: “Total collapse”

The Green Party and the Social Democrats have agreed on which proposals from the final report of the Immigration Commission should be submitted for consultation, but with some additions.

A supplement consists of the granting of a residence permit in case of a special connection if there are particularly painful circumstances. Another supplement deals with unaccompanied minors who have managed to create a base in Sweden.

Maria Malmer Stenergard, a member of parliament for the moderates, criticizes today’s message, which she believes is “a betrayal of her own voters.”

– What we have seen today is the total collapse of the Social Democrats on the immigration issue, says Maria Malmer Stenergard and continues:

– Also, they want to give a large number of unaccompanied men the opportunity to stay here. It is, of course, a betrayal of our own voters but also of all the people who suffer the exclusion of unsustainable immigration and the lack of integration policies for many years.

“Too many lawsuits in the past”

The Minister of Justice and Migration, Morgan Johansson, explains that the requirements for unaccompanied minors to remain in Sweden are currently too high.

– I think there is an argument to say that we can alleviate these working conditions. It is especially those who have arrived in 2015 who have the opportunity to enter the job market, says Morgan Johansson.

According to Maria Malmer Stenergard, the most important thing for the Social Democrats is to stay in power and, therefore, the party is willing to commit to its principles.

– It is possible that the Social Democrats and the Green Party could gather a narrow majority in the Riksdag, says Maria Malmer Stenergard.

But he also believes that the Social Democrats have a majority of the people against them.

– This means that the next elections will be a referendum on immigration and security and we know what the Swedish people think.

“It doesn’t stand out”

Morgan Johansson responds that the new migration policy now means that Sweden does not stand out from other countries within the EU. She also expects consultation comments.

– We must take that into account, of course. But with this we show that we can also solve quite difficult questions. This is perhaps the most difficult problem in Swedish politics at the moment and today we show that we can solve this problem, says Morgan Johansson.
