Czech soccer icon Antonin Panenka, 71, is in intensive care at the hospital, infected with the coronavirus.

His condition is critical, the club writes.

Czech Antonin Panenka has been infected with the coronavirus and is being treated in an intensive care unit at a hospital, according to former Bohemians Praha 1905 football club club in Twitter.

According to the club, Panenka’s status should be critical.

The footballer became an icon in 1976 thanks to a penalty during the European Championship. Panenka’s penalty led the then Czechoslovak team to win gold at the European Championship against Germany, which became the team’s first international title.

The Panenka penalty means that you place the penalty in the middle of the goal, while ensuring that the goalkeeper shoots to the right or to the left.
