Washington on Lundqvist: “solid candidate”

Will Henrik Lundqvist still play hockey? And if so, is he doing it with his former rivals in the Washington Capitals? – We are looking for a veteran who can be a substitute goalkeeper. He is a very strong candidate for us, the club’s general manager, Brian McLellan, tells the Washington Post.

McLellan’s statement further dispels the rumors that place the Swedish star goalkeeper in Washington next season. Braden Holtby, who won the Stanley Cup with Capitals 2018, seeks to leave the club as a “free agent” and in that case Lundqvist could be recruited in the American capital as a replacement, to compete for the goalkeeper sword with Russian Ilya Samsonov, 23 years.

It was last week that the New York Rangers announced that they would purchase their faithful 38-year-old servant from the final year of the contract. Lundqvist has not confirmed that his career will continue, but on Sunday he hinted that this may be the case.

“I still love to compete. I love the game and I still want to WIN, ”he wrote on Twitter.

On Friday night, Swedish time, the window opens in which NHL clubs have the right to recruit players who do not have a contract or who for other reasons have been included in the list of “free agents”.
