Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas wants to quickly start a new investigation into the sinking of Estonia. And he requests that the governments of Sweden and Finland also start preparing the work.

The new documentary “Estonia: The Find That Changes Everything” provides a lot of new information about a previously unknown four meter high shaft and other conditions that may be related to the sinking.

The relatives of the victims must be present

That is why the Prime Minister considers it important “An independent, transparent and trustworthy survey that involves organizations representing the victims’ families”, reports the Estonian news agency ERR.

– We want to continue as quickly as possible with the complementary investigation to obtain answers to all the questions that the new information raises, says Jüri Ratas after the government meeting on Tuesday.

– First, you need to examine the position of the wreck and the surrounding seabed in order to identify the damage to the hull. Like how and when it happened and the possible connection to the wreck, he says.

Add project manager!

Estonia wants Sweden and Finland to participate in the research and asks these two countries to designate project managers for preparatory work with the research. Until Estonia appoints its project manager, the government offices will continue to function, says the Estonian government statement.

Jüri Ratas has previously said that the new technical study “will include underwater observations.”

Sweden, Finland and Estonia will jointly evaluate the new findings of the documentary series, the countries wrote in a joint statement last week.
