Eddie Van Halen died after a long battle with cancer.
He turned 65.
“He was the best father I could wish for,” his son Wolfgang Van Halen wrote on Twitter.
American rock star and guitarist Edward “Eddie” Van Halen has died at the age of 65, reports TMZ.
According to the site, he died Tuesday at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica. By his side was his wife Janie, They are in Wolfgang Y Eddie Van Halen’s brother, the drummer Alex.
Eddie Van Halen had throat cancer for ten years. But recently, the cancer had rapidly spread to the brain and the situation deteriorated dramatically only during the last week in the hospital.
“He was the best father I could wish for. Every moment I shared with him on or off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I never think I can get back.” writes son Wolfgang Van Halen on Twitter.
Founded Van Halen
Eddie Van Halen founded the rock group Van Halen in 1972 together with his brother and drummer Alex, the bassist. Michael Anthony and the singer David Lee Roth. Together they have made rock classics such as “Panama”, “Dance all night” and the super hit “Jump”.
The band really broke through in the late 70s and success continued into the 80s. Today, they have sold more than 90 million albums worldwide.
Eddie Van Halen has been named one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He is also the one who wrote the famous guitar solo in Michael jackson “Beat it”.
“Genuine and beautiful soul”
A whole world of rock is in mourning for the star. Bearish kiss Gene Simmons, 71, praises him on Twitter.
“My heart is broken. Eddie was not only a guitar god, but also a truly beautiful soul. Rest in peace Eddie!” He writes.
