There is just under four weeks until US Election Day on November 3. To date, more than 4 million Americans have voted early, compared to 75,000 early votes at the same time before the 2016 presidential election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
“Many decided long ago”
The fact that so many have already voted is likely due to the increased opportunities to vote early both by mail and locally, according to Michael McDonald. As SVT Nyheter has done before reported Voting by mail is expected to increase due to the crown pandemic.
– We have never seen so many people vote before the election so far, says Michael McDonald and continues:
– People vote when they have decided, and we know that many decided a long time ago and already have an opinion on Trump.
May be the highest turnout since 1908
The fact that turnout is already so high means that Michael McDonald predicts a new voting record in the United States of around 150 million votes. This corresponds to 65 percent of those who have the right to vote in the country and would be the highest proportion since 1908.
Michael McDonald says early voting usually starts out strong and then falls before peaking just before the election. But according to him, turnout in some states has already skyrocketed with a month to go before election day.
– It’s crazy, all the data indicates a very high turnout in these elections. I think it’s a fact, concludes Michael McDonald.
