The message went out at 9:42 p.m. Then a car burned down in the center of Svedala for less than an hour.
According to the rescue service, the development of smoke was more difficult because it burned in the car’s lithium battery.
– It’s a hybrid car that’s on fire. The smoke from such a fire is more toxic than when an ordinary car burns, Jimmy Modin, a press officer at the police command center, tells Skånska Dagbladet.
– The fire has also spread to another car that was parked next to it.
The rescue leader urged everyone in the area to enter and close doors, windows and ventilation.
Stay at least until midnight
The fire was described as difficult to extinguish and was expected to last for a few hours.
At 11:30 p.m., the police and rescue services remained at the scene.
– It’s a car fire and it was a hybrid car that makes the smoke more toxic, Jimmy Modin tells TT.
At the same time, the internal commander of the rescue service, Mats Nilsson, considered that the fire would soon appear to be extinguished.
– Basically, the fire goes out, but on the other hand the temperature is not lowered in the desired way, he tells Sydsvenskan.
According to the rescue service, works are expected at the site at least until midnight.
