Ole Gunnar Solskjaer infuriates Erik Lamela

The start of Sunday’s match between Manchester United and Tottenham was eventful, to say the least. Tottenham had already led 2-1 after seven minutes of play, and after less than half an hour Anthony Martial received a red card.

Replay photos on Viaplay showed the Frenchman being elbowed in the face by Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela and responded by hitting him in the neck.

Lamela grabbed his face and sank to the ground, after which the referee decided to show Martial.

– He’s smart of Lamela’s part, said national team star Albin Ekdal in the Viaplay studio broadcast.

Ekdal also thought the verdict was too harsh and said that he would have preferred both Martial and Lamela to turn yellow.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used strong words when asked after the match to comment on Lamela’s actions.

– There is no excuse, but you have to control that guy. It’s a bad reaction from Anthony, and there’s no explanation for us losing the match, but we were still there when it happened, Solskjaer tells Sky according to TV2.

– If it had been one of my players, I would have hung it to dry. Don’t go down that way. If Anthony had fallen, the situation could have been reversed.

Tottenham ultimately won the match 6-1.

ESPN’s Mark Ogden writes after the game that there is some uncertainty about Solskjaer’s future as United manager, and that former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino could take over.
