The incident occurred at 10 a.m. Sunday on Highway 565 near Ljungbyholm, according to police.

– When a motorist approaches at high speed, one of the policemen on foot signals the driver to stop, but the driver does not and instead continues driving. Drive at high speed in the direction of policemen who have to jump to avoid being hit by the motorist, says police spokeswoman Katarina Rusin.

The man, who is 60 years old, managed to escape. But several patrols were deployed in search of him and he was eventually arrested.

– Shortly after 1 pm, you meet the driver who is a man born in 1959 in the immediate area. He is now arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and various other traffic offenses, including negligent driving and failing to observe police signals, Rusin says.

Police do not want to answer why the man acted as he did or how the arrest went. The man has been questioned and arrested.

– It is a serious crime for which he is now suspected and arrested, says Rusin.

The police officer did not have to go to the hospital for his injuries.
