Police in the Mitt Region will be better at serving deserters from criminal gangs, reports P4 Västmanland Swedish Radio.
Coordinators for defectors are appointed in all areas of the local police, as well as at the regional level. A feasibility study will determine how defectors’ activities are best organized.
– The hope is that we will be a resource that can help people leave their criminal lives behind in the long term, and that these people see that there are alternatives other than the avenues offered by criminal gangs, says Commissioner Henrik Engelkes. , head of the regional research section, to P4 Västmanland.
To be successful in a defection, special protective measures may be required, such as housing elsewhere and a protected identity, Engelkes notes.
