“We have not moved here to have an animal factory in front of us”

The smell. The transports. The size. In Söderslätt, concern is growing about the huge investment Jordberga Resurshub, where the manure from the new pig farms will create large-scale biogas production. Where players see an investment in a circular economy, others fear that their field will become an industrial area.

On the table in Carin Anzelius’s house, on the left, is Gasum’s application for a new environmental permit. The actors behind Jordberga Resurshub believe that they contribute to reducing dependence on transportation when multiple companies come together. “This all sounds great, if you don’t think about the consequences of what it means,” says Carin Anzelius. Carin Anzelius’ garden is a green vine on the edge of the field. She has lived here for ten years. Half a kilometer away, the biogas plant of the Finnish company Gasum glows in the afternoon sun.
