On Thursday morning, Smittskydd Västra Götaland published his weekly report on the situation of the crown in the region. And it’s not a lighthearted read.
During week 39, 494 cases were reported, representing an increase of 155 cases compared to the previous week. The increase has continued throughout September and now infection control physician Thomas Wahlberg is calling for an upgrade:
– We are still in a pandemic and the advice we have given from the beginning is as current as ever, as annoying as it may sound, he said in a press release.
Uninterrupted growth among youth
The greatest increase is in the age group 20-29 years, but other age groups also show an increase. Many new cases are currently being discovered in Sjuhärad and Skaraborg, where the incidence (number of cases per 10,000 inhabitants) is highest in Borås and Essunga municipalities. Strömstad also has a high incidence compared to other municipalities in the region, but the pace is also increasing in the Gothenburg area.
Thomas Wahlberg emphasizes that it is important to reverse development, and to be successful at this, everyone must be helped.
– We have seen an increase in the number of cases throughout September. One reason for this is that many have begun to relax and do not follow the recommendations given. We must reduce the spread of the infection, so that more people do not get sick, he says.
So many are treated in hospitals
The infection spreads in many different ways, but Thomas Wahlberg particularly mentions student contexts, schools, workplaces, and large gatherings such as parties and celebrations.
Highlight the importance of staying home at the slightest symptom:
– Do not expose others to the risk of infection – keep your distance and always stay home if you are sick.
On Wednesday, a total of 39 patients for covid-19 were treated in the Västra Götaland hospitals, of which three people were treated in the intensive care unit.
