Political scientist: Smells like a vote of no confidence and new elections

What can the parties tolerate? The ruined Las negotiations put the survival of the government at risk, and we can see both a vote of no confidence and a new election, according to political scientists. Unless the parties invent a trick to untie the negotiating ties, of course.

A super hot potato that has been put on the knees of the parties – then it was not possible to agree on the power in the labor market.

Now it is the politicians’ turn to take over, and it can be really difficult, because the parliamentary situation is very fragile, explains Jonas Hinnfors, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.

– Now the cards are visible. The Western Party has said that if negotiations fail and the government acts, they will overthrow the government with a vote of no confidence, he says.

– The government needs the tolerance of the Left Party to stay. Now the cards should be visible.

So it is the attitude of the other parties that becomes interesting.

– Will M, SD and KD support a vote of no confidence? Does M impose on the government a labor law proposal that they like a lot? KD has been clear, and so has SD, but the question is how M does it, says Jonas Hinnfors.

But perhaps the government can do something to prevent everything from running towards a vote of no confidence and a new election.

Li Bennich Björkman, professor of political science at Uppsala University, sees the possibility of politicians trying to get the parties back to the negotiating table.

– Maybe something can be lifted or taken out of the negotiations. The point here is that neither party negotiating should be identifiable as the one that crawled to the cross, he says.
