Soldiers and volunteers in the separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh, near Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Unrest continues in the disputed separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh. At midnight, two explosions were heard in the capital Stepanakert. Residents testify that the city has been attacked by drones.
Around the same time, there was a joint call from Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron that both sides should end the fighting as soon as possible. The presidents have spoken by phone and say they are willing to step up diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, according to a Kremlin statement.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have so far defied international calls for disarmament in Nagorno-Karabakh. The territorial dispute has been going on for decades, but fighting broke out again on Sunday. Both parties have reported deaths, both civilian and military, but several of the data have been difficult to confirm.
