For the second time in a relatively short time, an oil spill has been discovered in the sea off Uddevalla. Two weeks ago, the rescue service was alerted to an oil spill in Bodele Bay, part of Byfjorden, not far from the center of Uddevalla.
You now have a new version discovered, this time south of the Uddevalla Bridge, which spans the Byfjord a few kilometers west of the city, which Bohuslänningen was the first to report.
– We do not have a source of emissions at this time, but we are investigating it together with the rescue service. There is quite a bit of oil inside the harbor and then in streams towards Byfjorden. We don’t have a quantity estimate, but it’s some oil, says Mattias Hansson, DN Coast Guard watch officer.
Rescue services use drones to try to track the spill. The Coast Guard and Uddevalla municipality personnel are also on the scene. The Coast Guard has let one of its planes fly over the area to get an idea of the situation.
Efforts are now being made to try to collect the oil so that it does not spill into the sea.
– The rescue service will try to drain the oil now and we will help them with that work. We have a boat on site, says Mattias Hansson.
