The Swedish Accident Investigation Board has launched an investigation into the hole in the hull of M / S Estonia.
The Authority is now in talks with Estonia and Finland about the next step.
– We are considering what consequences the new information may have, says Jonas Bäckstrand, deputy director general of the Accident Investigation Board.
The hole in M / S Estonia’s hull became known to the public on Monday after documentary makers lowered the wreck with a remote-controlled underwater camera.
The discovery has been described as sensational and affects the cause of the ferry disaster.
Earlier this week, the government referred to the fact that “expert authorities” must provide information on whether a new investigation will be carried out.
One of the authorities mentioned by the Home Secretary, Mikael Damberg, is the Swedish Accident Investigation Board, which has now launched an investigation.
– We review the information that has emerged and consider what the consequences may be. But we don’t have any decisions to report on at this time, says Jonas Bäckstrand, deputy managing director of the Swedish Accident Investigation Board.
– This is new information that has been released as a film, and of course we are analyzing it in order to assess whether there are reasons for further action.

The foreign ministers of Finland, Estonia and Sweden have stated that a possible investigation will be carried out jointly between the countries.
– We have to relate to that and, of course, we have contact with the sister authorities in the other countries. We discuss with them what has emerged in these films, says Jonas Bäckstrand.
He does not want to mention what has been achieved so far.
– But I think that of course the new information should be reviewed and evaluated.
It does not mean if the government has given you an official assignment to review M / S Estonia.
– I do not want to comment more on that, but we have continuous contact with the Government Offices.
