Swedish-British pharmaceutical giant Astra Zeneca has reached a vaccine deal with the billionaire, reports Svenska Dagbladet.
According to the newspaper, 16 pharmaceutical companies are included in the agreement, which seeks to produce drugs and a corona vaccine for the world’s poorest countries.
According to the article, the Bill Gates Foundation has signed the deal with pharmaceutical giants, including Astra Zeneca.
“They are committed to accelerating production to unprecedented levels and ensuring that approved vaccines arrive as widely as possible as soon as possible,” says Gates, according to SvD.
Astra vaccine project in the third phase
There is still no approved vaccine against the global virus, which is worth noting, but Bill Gates does not rule out that a vaccine will arrive not before next year and together with pharmaceutical companies has agreed that the vaccine will also benefit low-income countries.
“Almost half of the world’s population lives in low-income countries. “They do not have the same purchasing power as the richest countries and are at risk of not receiving enough doses of vaccine,” says Bill Gates.
Svenska Dagbladet reports that there are currently 136 vaccine projects in the world and that eleven of them are in the third phase of clinical trials.
“Astra Zeneca together with the University of Oxford is one of the companies in the third phase,” the newspaper writes.
Today, Wednesday, the top 16 pharmaceutical companies, including Astra Zeneca, are expected to release a statement on the vaccine deal with Bill Gates.
