Stina Nilsson may make her World Cup debut this year

– It has been decided that each nation can have two men and two women within its regular quota who do not have the formal qualification. This applies to competitions through Christmas, Olle Dahlin, IBU president, tells SVT.

The exemption is granted because it is not possible to qualify for the IBU Cup, the level during the World Cup, which does not start until after the New Year.

A not inconsiderable problem it remains, however, for Stina Nilsson. The former long-distance star, who switched sports after last season, should take a place in the Swedish national team.

– There is stiff competition from women in Sweden. When you practice biathlon, you learn new things all the time, it is difficult. She has a theoretical chance to compete, but there is a long way to go, says the national team’s head coach, Johannes Lukas.

Nilsson suffered a broken elbow during a training session in August and is still unable to drive fully.

– In two or three weeks we can go back to driving as planned. It is important to rebuild everything again, you have to be careful so that it does not come back, says Lukas to SVT.

The World Cup season begins with competitions in Kontiolax, Finland, from November 28 to 29.
