Necessity knows no law.

In the middle of the league cup game against Chelsea, Tottenham’s Eric Dier ran to the locker room to go to the bathroom.

Then José Mourinho acted.

– I pressured him, says the Spurs coach.

It was, to say the least, a strange occurrence that took place in the 76th minute of the league cup round between heavyweights Tottenham and Chelsea.

With a 0-1 deficit, Spurs midfielder Eric Dier suddenly disappeared from the field, after which Chelsea had a golden opportunity to extend their lead.

Pursued by Mourinho

Television footage later showed that the 26-year-old midfielder had stepped out into the locker room … to fulfill his needs. Obviously also without notifying his coach.

– Yes, he (Mourinho) was not directly happy, but I couldn’t do anything. Call for help. Fortunately, they didn’t score…, says Dier.

The Portuguese coach acted forcefully and ran completely loud and picked up Dier.

– I understood that I had to go to the bathroom, but I ran afterwards to pressure him and make sure he came back as soon as possible, says “Mou” later according to The Mirror.

“It’s wrong?”

Gary Lineker, a Tottenham legend who now works as a television expert, was quick to draw attention to the incident on Twitter. Lineker himself was responsible for a notable incident during the 1990 World Cup, when he was in the middle of a match against Ireland.

“Dier probably needed to go to the bathroom. Players don’t shit on the field anymore. What’s wrong with them?”, writes Lineker.

Tottenham won the match after penalties and therefore progressed to the quarter-finals.
