The western United States has been ravaged by extensive wildfires in the past month. The situation remains serious and new fires are breaking out.
There are currently 22 fires in California. One of them, the so-called “Crystal Fire”, has spread over 145 square kilometers in 48 hours, reports CNN.
In addition to the smoke, the fire has caused large accumulations of ash that have fallen on cars and homes.
Thousands of people have been forced to flee.
“I heard it land in my car”
CNN has spoken with Morgan Balaei, who lives in Santa Rosa, California. She shows images where ash covers the sky. She found a hand-sized piece of ash herself.
– I heard him land in my car, he tells the television channel.
– At first I thought it was someone’s toupee.
Santa Rosa residents have not yet been forced to flee, but Morgan’s family is ready to leave the home in case authorities request an evacuation.
– As a family, we have decided that we prefer to be home as long as we can and that we leave when someone tells us to do it, he tells CNN.
The glass fire is not yet under control, according to authorities’ fire information site Cal Fire.
The number of forest fires in the world is increasing.
