Björn Ranelid has a lot of strings on her lyre. In addition to being one of the most popular writers in the country, he competed on the Melodifestivalen, wrote lyrics for Lasse Stefanz, acted as a wedding planner, and much more.
Now he has tried something new, appearing in the video clip of a more or less unknown band.
How did this happen?
– There were some of the band here and they left a request in my mailbox along with some material and it made me curious. I listened to several of the band’s songs and thought, is this really Swedish? I was almost blown away and felt like I really wanted to do this, says Björn Ranelid.
Standing up for things like this isn’t obvious to Björn Ranelid.
– I get inquiries all the time. From TV, they called recently and asked if I wanted to join a show with race cars. And before they asked me if I wanted to sail across the Atlantic. It was nothing to me. But this question was so harmless.
Did you take something paid to join?
– No, no, it was unthinkable for me. I’d like to highlight this cute gang. I think it’s a great band with great people.
“I was quite nervous at first”
The band in question is Yvette Eklund’s band from Malmö. The band members didn’t have high hopes of even getting a response to their request.
– It was shocking, we never thought it would be such a message, says Malin Sandberg, singer of the band’s choir.
But why Björn Ranelid?
– The song “If I bought you a car” is about having a fantasy about someone who is unattainable, and then it suited Björn because we could never believe that he wanted to work with us. In fact, it was a strange idea.
How were the recordings?
– I think at first I was quite nervous, it is not so easy to hold on to a group of people who know each other so well. It was very humble and it felt like we struck up a friendship pretty quickly. and above all we have a lot of fun.
Björn Ranelid agrees.
– It was a lot of fun and I think it shows in the video. I was there for five hours but he did nothing, it was a pure pleasure for me.
