Andreas Andersen, CEO of the Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, had already hinted that there would be no Christmas in Liseberg this season.
After Tuesday’s announcement by the government, he is now completely baffled that it is being canceled, something GP was the first to report on.
– We have been aware for the last week that it would be difficult. We would have needed a message this week to be able to open, but now the message became a little different and therefore we have to face the consequences, says Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg.
Loses 1.2 billion in sales
He continues:
– It is very unfortunate, but at the same time we have to like the situation and handle the situation as it is. We will have to wait for 2021 when, hopefully, we can open. 2020 is a lost year, but there are years to come.
Liseberg will lose around 1.2 billion SEK in sales this year and will have a negative result of around 500 million SEK.
Both the summer season and Halloween in Liseberg have already been canceled.
But Liseberg is still going strong, says Andreas Andersen.
– It should be remembered that we have a robust economy, a solid balance sheet. We have managed the loss, but it is clear that this will affect us for many years. It will come, he says.
Will organize Christmas dinner
Christmas canceled in Liseberg, however, they will organize their Christmas tables.
– The usual restrictions for restaurants apply there. This means that we can have a Christmas table like all other restaurants, although adapted to the wreath, says Andreas Andersen.
Liseberg invited the board to dinner, despite the pandemic:
During the economic crisis and the Liseberg pandemic, the restaurant opened for a three-course dinner for management, something the staff is critical of.
