Finnish children do well in school, despite spending less time in class than students from other countries, according to an OECD report.

The OECD survey is based on data collected in connection with the 2018 Pisa survey, which involved 15-year-olds from 79 different countries. The amount of hours that students dedicate to lessons in different subjects has been analyzed.

The report shows that 15-year-old Finns spend less time on lessons than the OECD average in, among other things, math and science subjects. In the 2018 Pisa survey, Finnish students’ results were also clearly better than the average for OECD countries.

However, when it comes to teaching languages in addition to the mother tongue, Finnish students spend a little more time than the average OECD student.
