MFF hill Behrang Safari ends after the season

Defender Behrang Safari started his career at Lunds BK before the 35-year-old in 2004 gave way to Malmö FF. Four years later, Safari left the club for an overseas adventure with Swiss FC Basel and Belgian Anderlecht, then returned to Skåneklubben in January 2016, where he signed a 4.5-year contract. Now, four years later, he says goodbye for the last time.

In an emotional video on Twitter, Safari now says it will quit after this season.

– My body will soon not be able to take it anymore. So this season will be the last you see me. This is without a doubt the most difficult decision I have had to make in my life. But it’s time I put the shoes on the shelf soon. But before that, I have one last wish: to let myself lift the Sven Lennart Cup (Lennart Johansson Cup, editor’s note), or whatever the hell it’s called, one last time, he says.

Safari has long been a key player at Malmö FF and has been involved in winning three golds at the Swedish Championship: 2004, 2016 and 2017. In total, the defender has been featured in 116 Allsvenskan matches. The 35-year-old has also played 31 games for the Swedish national team.
