Gothenburg University Affected by Extensive Email Drop

“It is very unfortunate that it is not possible to reach all the email addresses of the University of Gothenburg. We are working hard so that everything works again as soon as possible. I look forward to understanding from students, employees, the general public and external partners, “says Principal Eva Wiberg in a press release.

The university’s IT unit is working to fix the problem, and has managed to restore just over half of the email addresses over the weekend. But it is not yet clear when all employees can have access to their email addresses.

– In the near future for the masses, says Sören Ehrnberg, director of the IT unit at the University of Gothenburg.

Cause: built-in error

Once the email addresses are restored, users will be able to access the old saved emails before the servers were broken, according to Ehrnberg.

However, emails that were sent to the affected email addresses while they were unavailable are unlikely to reach.

According to Sören Ehrnberg, the crash is due to “a built-in bug” in the email servers.

– Everything indicates that this is a crash in the hardware, he says.

The university encourages those who need to contact the university to call instead.
