While the rest of Europe shut down much of society, the Swedish population has had relatively few crown restrictions to comply with. The idea is that the rules can be followed for a long time because the infection will not go away in the near future.
The outside world has viewed the approach with some suspicion, especially as the death toll in Sweden rose to relatively high levels. But since the spread of the infection gained new momentum in previously closed partnerships, the Swedish strategy has come to light.

On Wednesday, Anthony Fauci, the American equivalent of Anders Tegnell, received harsh criticism in the US Senate. Senator Paul Rand noted that Sweden’s death toll is one-third that of New York and New Jersey despite a “softer strategy with mainly voluntary measures.”
– You can object and say that the population of Sweden is different from that of New York and New Jersey. It’s possible. But even the average death toll in the United States is now higher than in Sweden. The death toll in the United States is comparable to that of less developed countries where social distancing is practically impossible, such as Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador, Aftonbladet quotes Rand Paul.
Tegnell tipped Johnson
Belgian Health Minister Maggie De Block has also spoken positively about the Swedish strategy.
– We get a little closer to the Swedish model. When your government politely asks people to follow the rules on hygiene and distance, the Swedes do. So instead of coercion, we will ask everyone to respect the rules and protect each other, he told the HLN site the other day.
In the UK, among others, Conservative MP Graham Brady believes the country should take a closer look at Swedish strategy, writes The Spectator. The same article claims that Boris Johnson spoke to Anders Tegnell prior to the changes in British crown strategy.
Carl Heneghan, director of the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford, also claims that the government has changed its strategy.
– What you see, if you look at some of the guidelines, is a change in the Swedish leadership, he said according to The Independent.
But not everyone agrees
However, British Chancellor Dominic Raab chided him for “not buying the comparison.”
American epidemiologist Anthony Fauci also turned against criticism he received in the Senate.
– I will gladly review the details at another time. You’ve said a lot. He has compared us to Sweden, but there are many differences. But compare Sweden with other Scandinavian countries. They are worse off, Rand Paul responded according to Aftonbladet.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is not particularly impressed with Sweden either.
– Sweden has had an economic loss greater than us and almost 20 times more deaths, so I do not see its model as something to follow, he said in an interview with Sky News.

Many questions at the press conference
The vision of Sweden as a possible pioneer country is also noticeable at home.
During Thursday’s press conference, journalists from seven different countries participated and several returned to the same question: Why are infection rates not increasing in Sweden as in the rest of Europe?
– The difference is that we have had the same restrictions all the time, while compliance is high, Anders Tegnell replied.
