Henrik Lundqvist’s future can be decided in the next few days.

There are many indications that he will be bought out of his contract with the New York Rangers.

– There is no third-party interest for Henrik Lundqvist at this time, says TSN expert Darren Dreger.

This weekend, the window was opened for NHL clubs to buy players outside of their contracts. A window that is open until October 8, the day before the free agent period begins.

“The time has come”

Henrik Lundqvist’s future with the New York Rangers has been widely discussed throughout the season. The 38-year-old has one year left on his contract, but Alexandar Georgiev and Igor Sjestjorkin have overtaken him between positions.

– They want to treat Henrik Lundqvist with the respect he has earned. But they have to keep going, they have depth at the goalkeeper position and the time has come, says TSN expert Darren Dreger.

“It will be hard”

According to Dreger, the New York Rangers have investigated the possibilities of the third Lundqvist, but interest is nil at the moment. That leaves an alternative: Lundqvist is bought.

– What I’ve heard from my sources is that that decision will not be made this weekend, but it will be a difficult decision once it is made, says Dreger.

Hard market

If Lundqvist is purchased, you are free to sign a contract with a new NHL club. But it remains to be seen what opportunities there will be. There are many indications that there is a strong group of goalkeepers in the free agent market. Among others, Braden Holtby, Jacob Markström and Robin Lehner are rumored to be three goalkeepers who could be left without a contract in October.
