Trump Announces HD Judge Nomination

Information from the Republican Party this week, initially exclusively, points to Amy Coney Barrett. Opponents have said the president can propose another candidate at the last minute.

At 11 p.m. Swedish time, the nomination ceremony began in Washington DC, where Amy Coney Barrett attended with her family: her husband and seven children. Also present was the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump.

– It is one of my most important duties, the appointment of a judge in the Supreme Court. This is my third nomination and it is a very proud moment, said President Donald Trump when he announced Amy Coney Barrett.

– This week, our country has mourned a true legend, Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“I love the United States”

About Amy Coney Barrett, the president said:

– She is outstanding.

When Amy Coney Barrett began her nomination speech, she thanked the president and praised Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

– I understand this is a big decision for a president, and if the Senate approves me, I promise to do the job to the best of my ability.

– I love the United States and the laws of the United States.

Sitting in court for life

Amy Coney Barrett, 48, is said to be the only possible candidate the president has known personally. Trump is said to have known her for a long time – a source claims they met in connection with the last Supreme Court election in 2018.

The nomination of a new HD judge comes just over a week after the death of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg on September 18. In the United States, it is the president who appoints justices to the Supreme Court; after that, a majority of the Senate members must approve the candidate.

The fact that a new judge is nominated so close to the presidential elections has drawn criticism from Democratic senators who prefer to wait until after the November 3 elections.

A total of nine justices are on the United States Supreme Court. After being voted in, they hold office for life.

Trump spoke about Ginsburg’s death in North Carolina.
