The bridge is the second largest shark in the world, which can grow up to 13 meters long and weigh 7 tons. It lives on plankton and is not very common in Swedish waters.
On Saturday, he suddenly appeared in a shallow bay at Styrsö Sandvik in the southern Gothenburg archipelago.
– A girlfriend came to this bay. It was eight meters long and swam for several hours, was at various bases, and looked confused. According to marine biologists, they can be confused if they go into shallow water, says David Thorsen, an officer at the Coast Guard command center in Gothenburg.
The Coast Guard was in place with two marine biologists from the Gothenburg Institute of Marine Biology.
– One of our officials swam together with a marine biologist and tied a rope around the bride and they towed her into deep water, says David Thorsen.
By 6.30pm, they had taken the shark into deep enough water.
– They judged it to be a good place and managed to release it. Then she swam away.
According to David Thorsen it is a very rare event.
– Sometimes it happens that sharks and whales roam in shallow areas, but it is very unusual here in Sweden. Heard what happened to whales before but not to a shark. As far as I know, it is very unusual. Now we had a big shark here and it was good that we were able to help him. It’s really fun that he did well.
