The boat’s owner alerted police to Vålarö on the outskirts of Nyköping at 10pm on Friday. But with the help of the boat’s gps, the owner was able to follow the boat and saw that it was in the water.
– We had help from the Coast Guard and at 10:30 p.m. the owner could see that the boat seemed to be on land a couple of minutes from where they had taken it. The GPS did not give an exact positioning, so we had to look around a bit, but it led us to the correct area, says Åsa Willsund, a police spokeswoman.
Police are looking for witnesses
At 11:45 p.m., the police were able to find the 10-meter-long boat worth SEK 1.7 million in a secluded bay. Police searched for the perpetrators with a dog but to no avail.
The boat lacked an engine and police currently do not know if the perpetrators intended to take the entire boat or stole it to take over the engines.
– We are very interested in contacting witnesses. The perpetrators should have had a car to transport the engine and perhaps a trailer so that people and vehicles are of interest to us, says Åsa Willsund.
