No Christmas in Liseberg 2020

At a press conference on Thursday, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven announced that there will be no new ceiling for public gatherings in the near future in Sweden due to the ongoing corona pandemic.

This leads Liseberg CEO Andreas Andersen to claim that the season, which never started in 2020, is likely over.

He tells P4:

– It is highly unlikely that we can open the park for Christmas. In practice, this means that we have been closed for all of 2020.

Therefore, the amusement park has been closed throughout the year following the government’s decision to ban gatherings with more than 50 people. As the amusement park counts as public events, Liseberg has not been able to open the doors.

It has previously been said that it will not be able to open during Halloween, this after the government announced in late August that no exceptions will be made for the amusement park.

Loses 1.2 billion in sales

When asked what it means financially for the park, he responds:

– Obviously it’s serious. We lose approximately SEK 1.2 billion in sales and have a negative result of SEK 500 million.

He continues:

– It will take many years to recover. It affects our investment opportunities in the park, it also affects our role as an employer.

Now the CEO is pinning his hopes for 2021, which he hopes will be the year Liseberg reopens the doors to the public.
