An export ban related to the country’s cybersecurity is the reason a planned meeting between the foreign ministers of Sweden and Switzerland was postponed. This is confirmed by Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) to SVT News.
– The problem is that Switzerland does not allow the export of goods that would go to Sweden, says Ann Linde to SVT.
According to SVT, this is the Swedish-owned company Crypto International, which recently had its export license revoked in Switzerland and equipment was seized by prosecutors.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Swiss company Crypto AG, under the leadership of a Swede, is said to have sold encryption equipment that was tampered with and possibly intercepted by the American intelligence service CIA since the days of the Cold War. The company was dissolved in 2018 and Crypto International took over parts of the business, which denies connections and knowledge of the previous company’s manipulations.
Linde does not want to answer how the export ban affects the Swedish authorities.
– These issues concern the cybersecurity of the nation, and that is why I cannot comment because it is confidential, he tells SVT.
