When Åsa Karlsson went out to the horse paddock on Monday morning, she was shocked.
The family pony, Alinda, lay dead and mutilated in the grass.
– At first we thought that he had hurt himself with something, but we soon realized that it was not like that. It was terrible, he tells Aftonbladet.
Alinda was a 22 year old New Forest pony and the great joy of the family.
– She was amazing. She had gone to riding school before and came to us as a retiree. But she was very alert and cool. The kids could ride it in the forest and they knew nothing would happen, says Åsa Karlsson.
But joy turned to despair the night between Sunday and Monday.
Alinda, who had gone out during the night with two other horses, was attacked by unknown individuals at the family farm south of Jönköping.
When the owners found her, she was lying dead in the grass, with one ear cut off and her eye gouged out. The other horses were unharmed, but cut off.
– At first I was completely surprised, says Åsa Karlsson about the experience.
– Now I have recovered a little, but yesterday was horrible. Up and down.

Alinda, a 22-year-old pony, was found mutilated in the grass outside Jönköping on Monday morning.
For the sake of the police investigation, Åsa chooses to be sparing with details about the act. However, the police have stated that they are looking for witnesses to the incident.
Macabre animal cruelty has rocked the area.
The neighbor Sanna Ottosson has difficulty assimilating what happened.
– It’s horrible, you don’t think it’s true, she says.
It is a well-known YouTube profile and has several horses of its own. Now he has chosen to install surveillance cameras throughout the barn.
– We can see all the boxes on the cameras. But that doesn’t stop something from happening and it’s sick that you have to do something like that, he says.

“It’s horrible, you don’t think it’s true,” says neighbor Sanna Ottosson of the incident.
Sanna Ottosson and her own horses have been the target of several death threats. Horses are famous in the YouTube world and they have their own Instagram accounts.
– We have “bed and breakfast” here at the farm and it happens that visitors come here just to meet my horses, she says.
– It would have been more natural if they had been exposed, but this pony was completely unknown, not even in competitions.
No one is yet a suspect in the act.
Thomas Agnevik, Police Region East Press Spokesperson, says:
– We have been to the scene and started an investigation into animal cruelty and vandalism. The horse will be autopsied, we will see if it is possible to determine the cause of death.
– There is no suspect. We go out on social media and want advice from the public. At the same time, we advise horse owners and urge them to have additional supervision over their horses. This is the second attack on horses in the municipality of Jönköping in a month.
For the Karlsson family, it is now important to find a way back to everyday life.
– The children are very sad, completely devastated. They wanted to try going to school on Tuesday, but it didn’t work, so they had to go home, Åsa says.

– If you have a horse, you know that things can happen. It would have been one thing if we had lost her naturally. Now it wasn’t like that and it should have been here, with us, still.
Buying a new horse will have to wait.
– Yeah, we’ll probably have to wait a bit. It will be difficult to find a person like Alinda, says Åsa Karlsson and struggles to hold back tears.
