Moderates, Christian Democrats, and Swedish Democrats demand more money in this fall’s defense decision

As DN has revealed, there has been an agreement between S, MP, L and C for a week prior to this fall’s defense decision. The government so far has not commented on the deal so far:

– I also confirm from the government that there is an agreement with the Center and the Liberals. On this basis, we are now working further to produce a defense-oriented bill. Our ambition is for the Riksdag to decide before Christmas, says Peter Hultqvist.

The Riksdag’s defense decision will apply to the years 2021-25. Typically, Swedish defense decisions are made in broad agreement across the bloc border, meaning both S and M should be behind this. M and also KD participated in the current defense decision in 2015.

In agreement With the January matches, the military defense will receive an additional three billion by 2025, but then the economic level will not rise until 2030. This despite the fact that during those years an update is needed to implement the entire proposal of the Committee on Defense of 2019, reported by DN.

The opposition parties M, KD and SD have seen the agreement and have now responded. The short-term offer from the Government to increase credits by SEK 3 billion by 2025 is welcomed. It is the long-term development that all three parties are turning against.

– The agreement until 2025 is good. But it is the longer term that is required to strike a balance in the defense decision with an economy that is strong enough in view of developments in the outside world, says moderate defense politician Pål Jonson.

– Our parties will never agree to more underfunded defense decisions, says Christian Democrat defense politician Mikael Oscarsson.

M and KD want Until 2030, invest SEK 35 billion more than the government so that the Defense Committee’s proposal is fully implemented. Swedish Democrats can accept the level of government in 2025. After that, SD wants a sharp rise on a ladder until 2030.

– We want to increase defense allocations to reach 2 percent by 2030, says SD defense politician Roger Richthoff.

Peter Hultqvist says that after the messages from M and KD, there is an opportunity for a consensus until 2025. However, he is not willing to allocate more money than the government has agreed with the January parties. The bill that was due to be presented to the Riksdag on September 30 will be delayed.
