The number of people infected by the coronavirus continues to rise in Stockholm. 477 people have been confirmed infected in the county between Tuesday and Thursday.

– We take this seriously, says infection control doctor Maria Rotzén Östlund.

In the past month, Smittskydd Stockholm has seen a further spread of the infection, with a curve becoming steeper.

– He took a big step between weeks 37 and 38. And it continues this week. We see a turnaround, says Maria Rotzén Östlund, acting physician in infection control in the Stockholm Region.

Between Tuesday and Thursday of this week, 477 people tested positive for the coronavirus in Stockholm County. The corresponding figure for the same period last week was 325.

– This means that the increase from last week continues. We take this seriously, says Rotzén Östlund.

Increase everywhere

Infection is increasing among both men and women and in all age groups, with the exception of young preschool-age children for whom the region does not recommend testing. The infection is found both in the city center and in the surrounding municipalities.

– So far we see an increase everywhere, says Rotzén Östlund.

He wants to urge everyone in Stockholm to continue to maintain their physical distance and wash their hands. But also that those who have the opportunity to work from home continue to do so as much as possible.

– And of course you stay home as soon as you feel a little bad.

With fall comes the runny nose, which has caused more people to try on. Last week 27,062 tests were analyzed. Of these, 2.2 percent were positive. The increased pressure created a queue for sampling, which has now been corrected, according to Rotzén Östlund.

– When you have had symptoms and they persist for 24 hours, we recommend that you take an ongoing infection sample.

Quarantine for homes?

County infection tracking relies on the person who becomes ill contacting those they have met.

– We experience that those who have covid-19 are interested that those with whom they have been in contact find out and therefore have the opportunity to maintain an additional distance and move as little as possible socially.

If the increase continues in the capital, it is possible to speak of new restrictions. Self-isolation for people in the same household where the infection has been found is a proposal that is being discussed with the Swedish Public Health Agency and the other regions.

– Details are unclear. But it may be a part that we think can reduce infection, says Rotzén Östlund.
